I’m fundraising for Emilia Clarke's charity, SameYou, which is working to develop better recovery treatment for survivors of brain injury and stroke.
This month is their 33 for ABI in July challenge to support the 33% of people who are affected by brain injury in their lifetime. To support SameYou, I’ve committed to shooting 33 3-point shots each day throughout July.
Why am I doing this? Well, as many of you know, I suffered a traumatic brain injury during a basketball game in my sophomore year of high school when I was charged and my head slammed into the hardwood court. You can see it here (not for the faint-hearted!): https://youtu.be/5EIIJD-iRds?t=3
I was diagnosed with a level 3 severe concussion, but neither my family nor I knew what to expect. In fact, I missed six weeks of school and struggled to do even the simplest tasks.
It has been almost 1.5 years since my injury, and I now know so much more about what it means to live with a brain injury: missing countless tests, stopping sports, constantly communicating with doctors and teachers, and negotiating academic accommodations, etc. This past year I have received so much support and knowledge, and I now want to help others in their recovery process!
I would be so grateful for your support of either a one-off donation or a pledge per basket made. One-off donations are made right now or you can choose to pledge a donation instead, which means your donation is processed at the end of my challenge, keeping me motivated to achieve my goals!
Also, I created a Coda doc with resources to help students manage their brain injury recovery process including a Health Log, Academic Tracker, Email Templates, Glossary and other helpful resources. You can find it here: bit.ly/concussiondocument
To my American family and friends, please know that while SameYou is based in the UK it is also a registered 501c(3) registered charity in Delaware USA (EIN – 81-3931169). Also, take note that 1 Pound sterling = 1.4 US Dollars.
This is the edit panel. You can update what you are tracking, the design you would like for the block, and what target you are aiming at (if any).
I made 20 out of 33 three-pointers today. For the final day, I rebounded for myself. This is because during the brain injury recovery process, you are the most important person in helping yourself rebound from said injury.
Shout out to Genie and Euan as well as Lili and Frank for their generous donations which brings me to an amazing grand total of £4,403.60 ($6123.20) this month. I am finishing this campaign at 88% of my updated goal of £5,000 and at a whopping 132% of my original goal of £3,333 ($4634.53)!
I can't thank everyone who supported me through donations or rebounding enough! I am so grateful to have about 100 people assisting me in helping those in the 33%. What we accomplished together this July is truly remarkable!
Made 14 of 33 three-pointers today after a long day of zoom calls. Shout out to my Mom for rebounding again, stellar photography, and great home cooking!
Huge thanks to Anyung Huang for getting me closer to my new goal! With £4,158.99 raised, I am at 83% of my new goal of £5,000 and 125% of my original goal of £3,333.
Made 17 out of 33 three-pointers today. Thanks to my Mom for helping me fix the rim after a long month of shooting.
It is crazy how far we have come in so little time! With only two days remaining, I want to thank everyone again for all of their support!
