Your Voice Counts Together for 30, Move your way

Your Voice Counts Together for 30 - Move your way challenge

I can't believe we're celebrating our 30th anniversary! It seems only 5 minutes since we spent a wonderful evening at the Sage Gateshead to mark our 25th anniversary - how the world has changed since then. We've demonstrated real resilience over the last three decades, never more so than in the last 18 months, and it’s a testament to our incredible staff and volunteers that we have continued to learn and grow as an organisation. We serve some of the most vulnerable people in society and I'm incredibly proud of the difference we have made, and continue to make, through what have been some very challenging times.

Our new Together for 30 anniversary fundraising campaign serves to highlight one of the key issues that have affected our beneficiaries. Many of the people we have supported over the years have experienced social isolation, and the impact of Covid and multiple lockdowns has made this situation worse. We wanted to highlight this issue, as well as show people the work our organisation does to connect people and the difference this can make.

I'll be taking up the Together for 30 challenge by delivering awards to some of the people who have had a big impact on our organisation over the past 30 years as a way of recognising their contribution to what we’ve achieved. I'll be running, cycling, swimming (and no doubt walking at times!) to reach my target of 30 miles, and I'll be making sure that I drag some volunteers along with me to share my journey!

You can join in too! Just choose one of our challenges - Walking, running, or moving your way throughout the month of September- going at your own pace and in your own time. Simply log your distance and try to reach your target over the month - if you go over this, even better!

Sponsoring me through GivePenny is fun and easy. One-off donations are made right now or you can choose to pledge a donation instead, which means your donation is processed at the end of my challenge, keeping me motivated to achieve my goals!

Your details are safe with GivePenny – they’ll never sell them or bother you with unwanted emails.

I’m hoping that you can support us to continue to make a difference in the lives of the people we support for many years to come.

Supporting vulnerable people in the North East to have a voice, to be better connected, and to have choice and control in their lives

Get together with others to take on our 30 mile fundraising challenge for Your Voice Counts 30 year anniversary.

You can walk, run, cycle, or move your way. You can ask people to sponsor you to do a mile a day, 30 miles over a week or month or all your miles in just one day!

To celebrate all we have done over the last 30 years to get thousands of people better connected, we are encouraging you to take on the challenge with someone else. This can be a friend, co-worker, family member, or neighbour. You can do the challenge in pairs or in groups. Community groups, clubs and staff teams can all sign-up as well.

If you can’t take part in the challenge yourself, you can nominate someone else to do it on your behalf.

All funds raised will go towards helping Your Voice Counts support more vulnerable people to be better connected, to have choice and control, and to have a voice about what matters to them.

£5 will pay for a volunteer to support an isolated person with a learning disability to travel to and take part in a community activity

£10 will hire a community room for one hour to host a drop-in for people with learning disabilities

£15 will pay for a specialist caseworker to give an hour’s support to a person with learning disabilities or mental health concerns facing destitution

£25 will pay for an advocate to carry out an introductory meeting with a vulnerable person experiencing a mental health crisis
