We are PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide, the national charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young people.
Suicide is the biggest killer of young people – of any gender – under 35 in the UK. Every year many thousands more attempt or contemplate suicide, harm themselves or suffer alone, afraid to speak openly about how they are feeling.
Our vision is for a society which speaks openly about suicide and has the resources to help young people who may have suicidal thoughts.
We exist to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives by shattering the stigma around suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to suicidal behaviour.
We believe that many young suicides are preventable and that those who are touched personally by a young suicide have a unique contribution to make to our work. No young person should have to suffer alone with thoughts or feelings of hopelessness and nobody should have to go through the heartbreak of losing a young person to suicide.
We provide confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person through our helpline, HOPELINEUK.
We engage communities and volunteers in suicide prevention projects and deliver training programmes to individuals and groups. This includes equipping local councils, healthcare professionals and school staff with suicide prevention skills.
Many of the young people or others concerned about a young person feel like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders when they are struggling with thoughts of suicide.
Our challenge will take see the JAE community raise vital funds for PAPYRUS by challenging themselves to physically feel the weight – the weight of our tyre! You can even get your friends and family to add to your fundraising through your own dedicated web link once you’re signed up!
